Physics AI tutor for iPhone

Physics, explained step by step, until it clicks.

Photograph a problem and Electra shows the knowns, the equation and why, the algebra, and the answer with units. Ask about any step, then drill it with quizzes and flashcards until you can do it without her.

Free to download. Mechanics to modern physics, high school through intro college.

Worked example

A car traveling at 12 m/s brakes with a constant acceleration of 3.0 m/s² opposite its motion. How far does it travel before stopping, and how long does that take?

v₀ = 12 m/s a = 3.0 m/s² x = ? v = 0
  1. 1 List the knowns with the direction of travel as positive: v₀ = 12 m/s, v = 0 m/s, a = -3.0 m/s². Distance and time are both unknown, so start with the equation that leaves time out.
  2. 2 Use v² = v₀² + 2a(x - x₀): 0 = (12 m/s)² + 2(-3.0 m/s²)(x - x₀).
  3. 3 Solve for the displacement: x - x₀ = 144 / 6.0 = 24 m.
  4. 4 Now use v = v₀ + at for the time: 0 = 12 + (-3.0)t, so t = 12 / 3.0 = 4.0 s.
  5. = The car covers 24 m and takes 4.0 s to stop.

How it works

From a photo of the problem to a method you own

  1. Electra home screen with the Scan a Problem button, Ask Electra chat, quizzes, flashcards, formulas and chat history

    Photograph the problem

Point the camera at the textbook or the worksheet and crop to one problem. Electra reads it and starts a solution with the reasoning shown line by line.

  2. Electra mechanics quiz asking whether static friction is typically less than, equal to or greater than kinetic friction

    Drill it until it sticks

Quizzes by topic with instant feedback, and spaced-repetition flashcards for the definitions and relations you keep forgetting. The method becomes recall.

  3. Electra formula sheet listing kinematics and dynamics formulas such as displacement, average velocity and Newton's second law

Keep the formula sheet that explains itself

Every formula sits with its variables and the conditions it needs. Expand one for a worked use, then ask the chat about the step that lost you.

What is in the app

A tutor, a drill partner and a formula sheet

Everything a physics course asks of you, in one place, with the reasoning always visible.

Scan and solve

A solution you can follow, not just an answer

Every solve shows the knowns, the equation chosen and why, the algebra, and the boxed result with units. The point is the method; the answer is the by-product.

Ask Electra

A tutor that answers the question you actually have

Concepts, a stuck step, a textbook problem typed out, a photo of your working. Chat history keeps every thread so you can pick a problem back up.

Quizzes

Topic quizzes with instant feedback

Mechanics, electricity and magnetism, waves and optics, modern physics. Each question explains the right answer, not just marks the wrong one.

Flashcards

Spaced repetition for the things you keep forgetting

Cards come back on a schedule tuned to what you missed, so the definitions and formulas you need under time pressure are the ones you have seen most.

Your level

High school through intro college

Difficulty adapts to where you are. AP and A-level students and first-year undergraduates see problems pitched at their course, not a generic pool.

Formula sheet

Every formula with its conditions attached

A formula is only useful if you know when it applies. Electra's sheet pairs each one with its variables, its conditions and a sample use.

Questions

Before you start

Is Electra a way to skip the homework?

No, and it is built not to be. Every solution shows its reasoning step by step so you can see how the method works and reproduce it yourself. If you only want a number, a calculator is faster.

Which physics topics does it cover?

Mechanics (kinematics, forces, energy, momentum, rotation), electricity and magnetism (fields, circuits, induction), waves and optics, and modern physics (relativity basics, quantum ideas). High-school and introductory college level.

Can it read handwritten problems?

Yes, from a clear photo. Crop to a single problem, keep the page flat and well lit, and Electra reads the text and any given values.

What if a step is wrong?

Solutions are AI-generated and can contain a mistake, which is exactly why every step is visible. Ask in chat about the step you doubt; Electra re-derives it. The formula pages on this site are verified against open textbooks and show every worked example recomputed.

Is Electra free?

Free to download, with the quizzes, flashcards and formula sheet included. Photo solving and the chat tutor need a subscription, which the app offers inside.
